In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
- Have We not opened your chest for you?
- And removed from you your burden,
- Which had weighed heavily upon your back?
- And raised high your mention?
- So surely with hardship comes ease.
- Indeed, with hardship comes ease.
- So when you have finished [your duties], stand up [for worship].
- And turn your longing to your Lord.
What is the Meaning of Surah Al-Inshirah?

According to some scholars, this also refers to the incident where the chest of the Prophet ﷺ was physically opened and his heart purified by angels in his childhood (Sahih Muslim 162).

وَوَضَعْنَا عَنكَ وِزْرَكَ
“And removed from you your burden,”
This burden means the weight of worry, sorrow, and pain that the Prophet ﷺ felt before the revelation. It also refers to the pressure of guiding people and dealing with rejection. Allah is saying: I made it lighter for you. The “burden” here can also mean sins in a general human context, though the Prophet ﷺ was sinless.

ٱلَّذِىٓ أَنقَضَ ظَهْرَكَ
“Which had weighed heavily upon your back?”
This emphasizes how severe the burden was—it nearly broke his back. Scholars explain this as a metaphor for how emotionally and mentally exhausting the early days of revelation were. The Prophet ﷺ had to face rejection from his people, insults, and disbelief despite delivering truth.

وَرَفَعْنَا لَكَ ذِكْرَكَ
“And raised high your mention?”
Allah honors the Prophet ﷺ by making his name known and respected until the end of time. In every Adhan (call to prayer), his name is mentioned after Allah’s. Imam Al-Shafi’i said: “No one is mentioned in prayer along with Allah except the Prophet ﷺ.” This verse is a divine promise of honor and global remembrance.

فَإِنَّ مَعَ ٱلْعُسْرِ يُسْرًۭا
“So surely, with hardship comes ease.”
Allah gives a powerful reminder: no difficulty lasts forever. The word “ma’a” (with) means that ease exists alongside the difficulty—it’s not separate or delayed. This is a divine law. The Prophet ﷺ once said, “One hardship will never overcome two eases” (Shu’ab al-Iman, Bayhaqi), referring to the next verse.

إِنَّ مَعَ ٱلْعُسْرِ يُسْرًۭا
“Indeed, with hardship comes ease.”

فَإِذَا فَرَغْتَ فَٱنصَبْ
“So when you are free, then stand up (for worship).”
After finishing any task, especially worldly work or Prophetic duties, don’t sit idle—turn immediately to prayer and worship. It’s a call to stay connected to Allah, especially in free time.

وَإِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ فَٱرْغَب
“And to your Lord direct your longing.”
Turn your full attention and hopes to Allah alone. Only He can truly help, comfort, and reward. This verse seals the Surah with a message of complete reliance and love for the Creator.
What is the Translation of Warafana Laka Zikrak?
It means: “And We raised your mention (for you).”
This verse tells the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ that Allah has honored him and made his name remembered across the world. His name is mentioned in prayers, Adhan, and remembered with respect. It shows how Allah gave him a high and lasting status.
